1995: HEDS continued with the
STD/HIV Intervention Programme which has been going on for
the last few years in various red light areas in Kolkata and
Howrah in right earnest. The IEC programme was also carried
out smoothly with success.
1996: HEDS continued with the
STD/HIV Intervention Programme which has been going on for
the last few years in various red light areas in Kolkata and
Howrah. The areas where the programme is being implemented
are Bowbazar, Khidirpore, Kalighat, Chetla, Sonagachi,
Salkia and Ghugudanga.
Apart from Health the Society
decided to work in Environment related issues and
accordingly initial steps were taken in this regard.
1997: The Society handled some
minor project connected with the Environment like different
types of Pollution, Cleanliness etc. while continuing with
the STD/HIV Intervention Programme with which the Society
has been connected since the inception of the said Project.

Sajnekhali, Sunderban for creating awareness with regard to
ecology, environment and our rich biodiversity among the
masses in general and the student and the children group in

1998: HEDS continued with the

1999: HEDS started making
inroads in the field of community health programme and its
awareness among the rural population and selected small
villages in the District of Nadia and North 24 Parganas The
Society also undertook an anti-smoking campaign in a small
way.
Another important achievement is
the commendation received from the visiting Members of the
Department for International Development of the British
Government, the main funding agency, for the activities
carried out by the parent Society namely Society for Human
Development and Social Action of which HEDS is an important
associate.
2000: HEDS undertook various
Health Awareness Camps, Campaign on General Health,
Cleanliness, Family Planning and the AIDS in the village of
Badkulla in Nadia District and Banipur & Maslandapur in
North 24 Parganas.
A Seminar was also held in the
city office of the Society on the harmful effects of chewing
‘Gutkha’ and similar items.

Interpretation Centre at Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological
Park at Darjeeling for creating awareness with regard to
ecology, environment and our rich biodiversity among the
masses in general and the student and the children group in
particular.
2001: HEDS continued its
association with SHIP STD/HIV Intervention Programme) and in
addition organised various Talk Shows, Health Awareness
Shows, Health Checkup Camps etc. all throughout the year in
the rural pockets of Nadia and North 24 Parganas Districts.
HEDS has actively participated
and provided all necessary support in creation of Nature
Interpretation Centre at Science Centre, Matigara, Siliguri.
for creating awareness with regard to ecology, environment
and our rich biodiversity among the masses in general and
the student and the children group in particular.
2002: HEDS continued its stride
with it’s regular activities and made entry into the
important field of geriatrics in small way with the limited
resources of the Society. A Project was undertaken where
aged Male & Female citizens were given a thorough health
check up.
Another important Project under
taken by HEDS is in the field of Child Health in the form of
Immunization and Health Checkup for the children below 10
years.
2003: HEDS took up campaign on
an important issue like Cancer, its detection and cure in
the rural pockets of Nadia and North 24 Parganas Districts.
The Project was undertaken under
the eminent oncologist and a member of the Society, Dr.
S.Sengupta.
A seminar was held in the office
premises on the use of Biodegradable Things. Eminent
environmentalists participated in the Seminar.
2004: HEDS started the year by
undertaking the Tuberculosis detection clinics in Dignagar,
Gopalpur and Badkulla villages of Nadia District, while
continuing the Health Clinic, in the same locality an
awareness campaign on General Health Maintenance, Hygiene,
Under-nourishment problem of children etc. was also
undertaken by the Society and both the programmes are well
under progress.
2005: The first Project
undertaken by the Society this year was a Camp on gerontotherapeutics for the aged ones. The Project was
undertaken in experimental basis with the aged Male & Female
members given a thorough health check up followed by
counselling on how to tackle the age old diseases.
2005: The next project
undertaken by the Society was the issue of (contd.)
Immunization and Child Health. In addition to the
immunization project general health check up of the other
village children were also taken up simultaneously and
wherever necessary respective medicines were provided free
of cost.
Before the close of the year a
two days Workshop cum Seminar were held in the office
premises on the subject HIV/STD where eminent physicians,
experts, social workers working on the issue and invitees
comprising of NGOs participated.

2006: The year started with a
Project undertaken by the Society this year was a general
Health Camp for the aged ones. The Project was undertaken in
broad basis with the aged Male & Female members given a
thorough health check up followed by counseling. The success
of the Project initiated the Society to take up the Project
with the elders also. The Project selected was the
‘Development of Osteoporosis’ in the middle aged women of
the villages who were totally unaware of the disease or its
outcome. The camps were a grand success as the women of the
villages were for the first time became aware of the
disease.

2007: The first Health Awareness
Camp was about pre-natal care to the expecting mothers and
housewives and explained to them the do’s and don’ts during
the stage and also how toprepare healthwise from beforehand
to prevent any complication during the prenatal and post
natal stage.
Secondly, a Health Camp on the
subject of ‘Breast and Ovarian Cancer Detection & Cure’ was
held where the outcome of the disease and how self test can
be done for early detection/indication. Necessary check ups
were also made and suggestions for further necessary action
given were ever necessary.
Thirdly, a Seminar was held on
the premises of the City Office of the Society on the
harmful effects of chewing and smoking tobacco related
things and on the harmful effects of excessive usage of
carbonated drinks and junk foods among the children and
teenagers of the society and its harmful effects on the long
run.
Rescue of street based underage
sex workers and anti-trafficking activities in the Kalighat
area of Kolkata in association with Durbar Mahila Samanwaya
Committee.
2008: In the month of September
the Society in association with Durbar Mahila Sammanay and
MSME, Govt. of India orgainsed a two weeks training camp for
the under privileged women of the Society in making of
Sanitary Napkins. Mid day meal along with tea and snacks
were provided to the participants. The camp was great
success.
2009: The first Project
undertaken by the Society this year was a Blood donation
Camp in North 24 Parganas and Badkulla in Nadia. The two
areas where the Society has been working for a long time.
The next project undertaken by
the Society was the issue of Cervical Cancer among the
middle aged women— mainly women approaching menopause and
those who have already started.
Before the close of the year a
two days Workshop cum Seminar were held in the office
premises on the subject Low Cost Latrine where experts,
social workers working on the issue participated.
2010: The first Project
undertaken by the Society this year was a Blood donation
Camp in Banipur and Maslandapur areas of North 24 Parganas.
The next project undertaken by
the Society was the issue of Immunization and Child Health
checkup. The said Project was taken up after a long period
at Badkulla in the Nadia district and was a huge success.
.Along with the Project the issue of Promotion of Small
Family Norm & Population Control was also explained.
A whole day seminar was held in
the office premises in the month of October on the subject
‘National Environment Awareness’. Eminent environmentalists
participated in the Seminar and spoke about the subject.

foods among the children and teenagers of the society and
its harmful effects on the long run.

was held in the Badkulla village of Nadia, about the

Next, during the monsoon an
Health Awareness Camp cum interaction session was held in
Badkulla, Banipur & Maslandapur areas in the subject of
common diseases like Diarrhoea, Cold & Fever, Snake & Insect
Bites etc. The camp and session both was a grand success
where local clubs, samitis etc. participated in good
numbers.
After the Pujas a Health Camp on
the subject of ‘Breast and Ovarian Cancer Detection & Cure’
was held in the villages of Badkulla and Malandapur. A
Member of the Society and a renowned Oncologist organised
the Camps along with other members and well wishers fellow
doctors to explain the outcome of the disease and how self
test can be done for early detection/indication. Necessary
check ups were also made and suggestions for further
necessary action given were ever necessary.
A seminar was organized in the
premises of the City Office of the Society on the harmful
effects of chewing and smoking tobacco related things which
as become very popular among all sections of people. The
seminar was attend by large number of people.
Finally, towards the close of the
Calendar Year another Seminar was held on the premises of
it’s City Office on the ‘Awareness on basic Science of
Astronomy using hands on Telescope experience’ where science
teachers of different schools participated.
2012: The first Project
undertaken by the Society in the year was a ‘Awareness
Generation Project for Rural Poor Women’ in Badkulla in
Nadia. The area where the Society has been working for a
long time. The camp was of two days in order to cover
maximum possible members.
The next project undertaken by
the Society was an Awareness Camp for Child Immunization in
the month of August in the villages of Maslandapur & Banipur
in North 24 Parganas. The aim of the Project is to showcase
the benefit of immunization to the children in a systematic
manner as usually in the rural areas the percentage of
systematic immunization in the rural areas is very poor.
2013: The first Project
undertaken by the Society this year was Awareness Camp on
‘Low Cost sanitation’ and ‘Low Cost Latrine’ in Badkulla in
Nadia. The core area where the Society has been working in
regular basis. The camp was of one whole day.
The next project undertaken by
the Society was a Bone Related Awareness Camp for women
above 40 years in the month of August in the villages of
Maslandapur & Banipur in North 24 Parganas. The aim of the
Project is to showcase the essential of Calcium intake in a
systematic manner as usually in the rural areas such
knowledge among the women folk is very minimal. Special
emphasis was given on calcium intake though our regular
daily food habits considering the monetary aspect.
Before the close of the year a
seminar was held in the office premises after the pujas on
the subject ‘Chewing of Tobacco & Gutkha’. Dr. S. Sengupta,
an active member of the Society spoke in depth about the
effects which were well supported by some well defined
posters.
During the month of January a
Seminar on ‘Osteoarthritis’ was held in the office premises
where the issue was explained by Dr. P. Chakraborty ably
supported by a Physiotherapist demonstrating some common
exercises for daily practice.
2014:
The first Health Awareness Camp was held in the Badkulla
village of Nadia in the month of June where our Member Dr. (Mrs.)
Rama Chakraborty spoke about pre-natal care to the expecting
mothers and housewives and explained to them the do’s and don’ts during the
stage and also how to prepare health wise from beforehand to prevent
any complication Social workers from the local Samitis also
participated.
After the Pujas in
the month of November-December a Health Camp on the subject of ‘Breast and Ovarian Cancer Detection
